While consistently moving forward on the Learjet 85 Program, Bombardier Learjet has reached another milestone on our path to creating the future. This July in Montreal, the Learjet 85 structural design team together with strong support from the Mexico program team, completed the first composite Manufacturing Validation Unit (MVU) for the aircraft’s pressure fuselage section.

Designed to confirm the manufacturing process of the Learjet 85, the MVU was built using actual production tooling which will also be used to manufacture the pressurized part of the plane. The pressure fuselage section extends from the cockpit to the aft pressure bulkhead.
A key step towards the start of production of the Learjet 85, this first MVU is being used to validate the aircraft’s manufacturing design and manufacturing concept through testing, as the program advances toward the start of production in Mexico later this year.
The 45,000 pounds (20,412-kg) of production tooling used to manufacture the MVU will soon be transferred to its permanent home at the new Learjet 85 aircraft manufacturing facility in Querétaro, Mexico. With construction in Quéretaro progressing to plan, tooling installation will begin at the end of July. Shortly afterwards, the first production part for this new aircraft will be built.
Set to redefine the midsize business jet class, the Learjet 85 program is progressing full-speed ahead with entry into service on track for 2013.
